Hiring

  • Before the last day of classes in your second-to-last semester:

    • Notify HR of your impending departure.
    • List the position and start accepting applications for your replacement.

      • We recommend leaving the application window open for one month to allow ample time for interested candidates to apply. (For hiring tips and resources, click here.)

Training

  • Ideally, the training/shadow period should last at least one month, during which we recommend:

    • Hosting a recorded Zoom meeting to orient your replacement to the team and their new role.
    • Including your replacement in all of your meetings.
    • Introducing your replacement to key stakeholders to maintain personal relationships.
    • Hosting a recorded, follow-up review at the end of the shadow period to ensure your replacement feels ready to take the reins.

Phase Out

  • During the final leg of your employment, the new leader takes over main responsibilities while you provide support. This is the perfect time to work on backlogged tasks and offboarding such as the following:

    • Meet with the continuous improvement team to share a valuable learning experience for a case study.
    • Record a three-minute legacy video sharing what you have done during your time at the Ballard Center and what you want to be remembered for.

      • These videos will be used to inspire future leaders and played during the last All-Hands and graduation reception.
    • Complete an exit interview with mentor-director.

Alumni

Your contributions as a student leader for the Ballard Center have significantly influenced our organization. We value your work and would like to maintain your connection with the Ballard Center and your team after retirement.

Before retiring, please express your preferred level of involvement. The system for this is in development.
